ST DAVID'S HALLS
86 Nethergate (down the pend to rear of Nethergate)
(17th-19th centuries) Much of Dundee's historic burgh architecture was swept away by 19th and 20th century “improvements” but there are still examples of older buildings behind or within later frontages. St David's and Gardyne's Land (see item ??) are important as the burgh's only substantial groups of late mediaeval (and later) domestic buildings to survive. Previous uses include house, bakehouse, restaurant, shop, cellars, gym and clubrooms. St David's Masonic Lodge has been here 100 years, later acquiring the whole building. A phased programme of conservation work is currently under way with recent repairs grant assisted by Dundee Historic Environment Trust.
Open Saturday 10.00am-4.00pm for access to the hall and upper floor lodge rooms.

CITY CHURCHES
Overgate
The City Churches originated from 1442 as the largest parish church in Scotland, but the nave was destroyed in 1547 and St Mary's Tower is the only mediaeval survivor. The mediaeval transepts and choir had served as three individual churches from 1588 and 1759 but were replaced following an 1840s fire.
ST MARY'S TOWER
(From about 1460) The largest mediaeval church tower in Scotland, design similarities to churches in the Low Countries. Climb the 232 steps to the parapet for fantastic views over the city, visiting the Antiquities Room with carved stones and bells from demolished buildings, bell ringers' chamber and belfry on the way up.
Open Saturday for pre-booked guided tours at 10.30, 11.45am, and 2.15pm. Places are limited, so please book by calling Dundee 432364 (Monday-Friday 9.00am-4.30pm). Tours last approximately 1 hour. Touring the Old Steeple can be strenuous due to the numerous steps between each level. No disabled access above the ground level. Unaccompanied children under the age of 16 cannot participate in the tours.
Auld Stuff and the Auld Steeple
Open Saturday 10.00am-4.00pm for archaeology event on ground floor. Join archaeologists and handle mediaeval and later pottery, artefacts and animal bones.
