Historic Building Repair Grants

The Trust runs two grant schemes, the Historic Environment Grant Scheme, for the repair of historic buildings and the Façade Enhancement Grant Scheme, for the repair and renewal of shopfronts in specific locations.

The Historic Environment Grant Scheme
This scheme is for the repair of historic buildings located in Dundee's conservation areas.

Comprehensive grants address a range of external repair works which will secure a building's long term future.

Small grants fund individual items of repair or a limited range of individual repairs with a maximum grant of £10,000.

Grant rates vary depending on the type of work undertaken. Comprehensive grants are normally awarded at 40% of eligible costs and small grants at 50% of eligible costs.

Eligible buildings are those located within any of Dundee's conservation areas. Priority is given to the repair and reuse of redundant or underused listed buildings in the city centre conservation areas. Churches (which have their own scheme) and buildings owned by financial institutions and by local authorities and projects assisted directly by Historic Scotland are not eligible.

How to apply
Ensure that your building is eligible for assistance (it must be located in a conservation area) and that the proposed works are eligible.

Contact Dundee Historic Environment Trust with details of your proposed work.

The Trust's Director will advise on eligibility and, if appropriate, arrange to visit your property to discuss the proposed work with you and issue you with an application form.

Applicants submitting proposals for comprehensive grants must appoint a suitably qualified professional advisor. The Trust can advise further.

Applications must be submitted on an application form accompanied by three quotations, and drawings, specifications and costings as relevant. The Trust will assess your application and respond in writing. Grants offers will include conditions that you must accept if wishing to take up the offer of assistance. The conditions will be more rigorous for comprehensive grants and will be discussed with you beforehand.

Any work begun before a written offer of grant is made will disqualify an application from consideration unless otherwise agreed by the Trust. Payment of grant will follow completion of work to the Trust's satisfaction within a specified time period and submission of receipted invoices.
