About Doors Open Day in Dundee
Dundee's eighteenth Doors Open Day celebrates the annual European Heritage Days event, involving thousands of buildings in about 50 countries opening free of charge during each weekend in September, and most of Scotland's Council Areas are organising Doors Open Day events with over 900 buildings opening this year. Further details about other areas are available from the Scottish Civic Trust, telephone +44 (0)141 248 1188 or from their specific Doors Open Day web site.
The buildings participating are chosen for their historic, architectural, industrial or technological interest. Some also host special events, including those contributing to the 500th anniversary of the first book to be printed in Scotland. Buildings are open on Saturday and/or Sunday, usually between 10.00am and 4.00pm, but please check the details to ensure you enjoy both days. Admission to all buildings is free (there may be a charge for refreshments or non-specific Doors Open Day activities).
Some buildings are only accessible by organised tours which must be booked in advance. Many tours can be booked in person at the main reception, Tayside House, or by telephoning 01382 433558, 8.30am-5.00pm, Monday to Friday. Please see the specific entries for details.
Doors Open Day is organised by Dundee Historic Environment Trust on behalf of Dundee City Council, with assistance from many organisations and individuals. Our special gratitude goes to those who have generously opened their doors to make this day possible, to the Council's Planning & Transportation Department for funding and other support and to the Courier for helping with publicity material. For specific questions about the Trust go to Contact Us page.
Further information about other visitor attractions and events in Dundee is available from Visit Scotland Angus & Dundee, Discovery Point, Dundee, telephone +44 (0)1382 527527.
Please note that visitors enter buildings at their own risk. Neither Dundee Historic Environment Trust, Dundee City Council nor participating buildings are responsible for any accidents or damages incurred.
